Youth Solutions’ award-winning ARTucation project fuses youth drug and alcohol education with creative expression through Aboriginal art, dance, music or Traditional Indigenous Games. The project particularly seeks to engage with young Indigenous people.
Developed in late 2013, ARTucation is generally delivered in conjunction with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers, artists or community leaders.
Young people take part in a series of workshops where they learn about drug and alcohol-related harms, with a focus on knowledge and skill development. The young people then express what they have learnt by creating an Indigenous art inspired mural, expressing themselves through dance or music or taking part in Traditional Indigenous Games.
In 2015, ARTucation was named the winner of the Champions of the West Award for Indigenous Excellence. The award category was sponsored by Crown Hotels & Resorts.
ARTucation is funded by NSW Health and South Western Sydney Local Health District.
The project is supported by DJMate.
