ARTucation

Youth Solutions’ award-winning ARTucation project combines drug and alcohol harm prevention and creative expression into a program specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and their peers, aged 12 – 18 years.

ARTucation’s creative cultural activities, drug and alcohol education and harm prevention messages ensure this fun workshop series builds knowledge and skills to reduce drug and alcohol–related harm.

The project includes at least one creative/cultural workshop delivered by a First Nations creative or facilitator. Activity options include painting, ceramics weaving, dancing or Traditional Indigenous Games.

ARTucation can be delivered to groups of young people in local high schools, primary schools, community or youth centres or other alternate learning facilitates. ARTucation is carefully tailored to suit the needs and interests of each group and can be delivered via face-to-face group sessions, or online group sessions.

The project was named the winner of the 2020 ZEST Award for Outstanding Project Working With Aboriginal Communities in Western Sydney.

“Great program, very educational and could help save many lives. Well done and well presented by all facilitators.”  – Aboriginal Education Coordinator from local high school
