Local services team up to deliver the Recharge Online Youth Fiesta

Posted on 17th September 2020

Youth mental health, wellbeing and connectedness the focus for online fiesta of events & activities

Free online youth events and workshops, weekly challenges, activities and loads of great wellbeing tips are just a few of the things young people can expect from the Recharge Online Youth Fiesta.

Kicking off last week, the two-month-long online fiesta is being delivered by a cohort of Macarthur and Wingecarribee services, with the aim of creating a positive sense of community on social media for young people. The fiesta will particularly focus on supporting good mental health and wellbeing, tapping into the 7 tips for a healthy head space.

Campbelltown City Library, headspace Campbelltown, Traxside Youth Health Service and Youth Solutions have teamed up to deliver the fiesta, with Camden Council generously contributing funds to support the initiative.

Youth Solutions Chief Executive Officer Geraldine Dean said her service was proud to be part of such a fantastic initiative for young people.

“I know all of the organisations involved are very proud to be part of the Recharge Online Youth Fiesta organising committee. Like our fellow services, we recognise that a great focus is needed on providing support, information, activities and a positive sense of community on social media, particularly as our young people cope with the lasting impacts of COVID-19,” Mrs Dean said.

Aysun Goktepe from headspace Campbelltown echoed the enthusiasm.

“Our services are very excited to be working together to deliver some great content on Facebook and Instagram, including free events and workshops, which all focus on supporting young people, their mental health and wellbeing. An of course, in between the exciting events, there will also be loads of fun, engaging and interesting social media content,” Aysun said.

Lauren Rimmer from Traxside Youth Health Service said the Recharge Online Youth Fiesta kicked off last Thursday, with its first theme of Creating Connections.

“Across September and October, young people can expect to see a range of exciting, free activities happening, centred around a fresh theme each week. We’ve got some great things in the pipeline, ranging from mindfulness activities and free exercise workshops, right through to healthy recipe sharing, drug and alcohol education workshops and healthy sleep tips,” Lauren said.

Zoe Ross from Campbelltown City Library outlined the best way for young people to get involved.

“It’s so easy to get involved in this one. Just hop onto the Instagram and Facebook accounts for Campbelltown City Library, headspace Campbelltown and Youth Solutions to see all the latest challenges events and activities, as well as plenty of great and helpful content.”

The organising committee also thanked Camden Council for its generous support of the Recharge Online Youth Fiesta.
