Energy company helps keep Youth Solutions’ education program in motion with generous grant

One of Australia’s largest energy companies has thrown its support behind Youth Solutions DAIR (Drug and Alcohol Information and Resilience Skills) program.

Youth Solutions, which works to empower young people to be healthy and safe, successfully applied for a Viva Energy Role Model Grant.

The $3880 windfall will be used to support the DAIR program, which aims to boost skills, resilience and knowledge among young people in south-west Sydney in a bid to reduce drug and alcohol related harm.

Viva Energy Australia is the exclusive licensee of the Shell brand and its products in Australia. The company has a strong community compass and believes building partnerships makes communities a better place to live.  It supports many organisations and programs and also sets aside $50,000 for a grants program for not-for-profits that address either mental illness, substance misuse or breaking the poverty cycle through education.

Youth Solutions chief executive officer Geraldine Dean welcomed the Role Model Grant from Viva Energy Australia. “We sincerely thank Viva Energy Australia for its generosity,” Mrs Dean said. “Last financial year 272 young people participated in the DAIR project, where they were taught how to be safe around drugs and alcohol.

“The program is made up of four young adults who are passionate about working with young people in south-western Sydney and providing them with information to make informed choices for good health.  The team serves as important role models for the participants.”
