For young people, being better informed is key when navigating and exploring the areas of alcohol & other drugs and mental health, and making better decisions. Yet there are many barriers to asking questions and getting answers.
Asking someone a question is not always as simple as it seems. You might be shy, they might not have the answer or, often, the topics of alcohol & other drugs and mental health attracts judgements or assumptions.
Those barriers, and how to overcome them, were the impetus for Youth Solutions to launch its FAQs Campaign recently.
The Frequently Asked Questions “FAQs” Campaign aims to answer some of the common questions the Youth Solutions Program Team and YAG hear from young people relating to the topics of alcohol & other drugs (in particular cannabis), mental health and even calling an ambulance.
Youth Solutions Community Development & Partnerships Coordinator, Karen Yuen, said the answers to those questions were vital in ensuring the wellbeing of young people in the Macarthur and Wingecarribee areas.
“One question we hear young people ask again and again is whether using cannabis is harmful,” Ms Yuen said. “They know it’s a natural product and it’s also used for medicinal purposes.”
“We’ve partnered with community experts to find the answers.”
“Our FAQs campaign runs until the end of April, and we encourage everyone to login to Youth Solutions’ social media platforms for answers to some of their questions.”
The FAQs campaign was made possible by a grant provided by the NSW Ministry of Health. Special thanks to headspace Campbelltown, the D.A.Y.S (Drug and Alcohol Youth Services) Team, NSW Ambulance and the Youth Solutions Youth Advisory Group (YAG) for their involvement and contribution to the campaign.
