Drink spiking

Drink spiking is when someone adds alcohol or another drug to your drink without your knowledge or consent. It’s harmful and illegal.

Symptoms may include:

  • Nausea, drowsiness or dizziness.
  • Feeling drunk (‘out of it’) after consuming only a few sips of alcohol.
  • Passing out or blacking out.
  • Waking up feeling confused with little to no memory of the previous day.

Don’t drink spike: Never add alcohol or other drugs to anyone’s drink without their knowledge.

Know the signs: If a drink looks, tastes or smells off, don’t drink it. If someone shows symptoms, find a safe place and call for help. Do not leave them alone.

ALWAYS call for help in an emergency

If someone passes out and you are unable to wake them, or if they become very unwell, call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance – it could save their life.

  • Tell ambos if your friend has had alcohol or drugs – it helps them provide the best care.
  • You won’t be asked to pay on the spot. A bill is sent later to the patient (and payment support options are available).
  • If someone is unconscious but breathing, and it is safe to do so, place them on their side to keep their airways clear and open.

Some helpful emergency prep...

  • Do a first aid course (with a friend is even better!).
  • Save the poisons hotline to your phone: 13 11 26.
  • Download the emergency plus app to your phone.

Thank you for your support…

This campaign has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Hunt Family Community Foundation.

The Hunt Family Community Foundation was established in 2023 to honour the legacy of the late Harry Hunt OAM. Harry was a champion of business and made an enormous contribution to his local community in South West Sydney for over 50 years. The Hunt family is committed to continuing his great work by supporting valuable projects and initiatives with partner organisations into the future. The Foundation looks forward to continuing its existing relationship with Youth Solutions; collectively making a difference and supporting the young people in our community.

Youth Solutions extends its sincere thanks to the Board of the Hunt Family Community Foundation for its support.
